ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Adonis
The breathtakingly beautiful, effeminate, and weak mortal lover of Aphrodite, was born of her mother, who was turned into a myrrh tree. Aphrodite, struck by his beauty, tried to keep Adonis away from other gods, hid him in a chest, and asked Persephone to watch over him. Curious Persephone opens the chest to see the most beautiful man on earth and falls for him too. She refuses to return him, so Zeus decides that Adonis will spend one third of the year with Aphrodite, one third with Persephone, and one third alone. Adonis, however, desired to spend the latter third of his life with Aphrodite. Tragically, a boar savagely kills him one day as they are out hunting with Aphrodite. So she sprinkled nectar in honor of him on his pooling blood, which gave rise to the blooming anemone. Like the beautiful Adonis, the flower blooms and dies quickly. As cliche as this is going to sound, I am going to say it anyway: physical beauty will last only a few decades, but the beauty of a personality will surpass history. Altin Tatli (Golden Sweet) is an artist living and creating in Istanbul,Turkey. Altın’s multi-disciplinary practice explores the possibilities of an intergalactical and interdimensional language of art. As a maximalist artist, they use many forms of art to include us in their universe.
